About Carpenters Autos Ltd
Carpenters is a family run business (established in 1934) who's aim is to make buying a used car both an easy and enjoyable experience.
Brief History
The name Carpenter has been associated with motor transport since before the First World War.
The present owner's Grandfather, Edward Carpenter, worked for Darracq, then as a driver for Waring and Gillow, the furniture company,
when driving was a unique occupation.
Unfortunately at the outbreak of World War 1 he was commandeered together with his lorry and sent to France, then to Mesapotania (now Iraq),
sadly not to return. His two sons, Edward and Edgar Carpenter were selling motor vehicles as early as 1921 and founded the motor business in Brixton in 1934,
and, apart from the war years, Carpenters autos has been in existence ever since, now at their sales premises at Hampton Court since 1950.
New purpose built workshops in West Molesey were added to the organisation in 1988.
Now under the control of Greg Carpenter who started his career in the motor trade as a motor mechanic and has progressed to management and running the business.
Greg has always been enthusiastic about cars, currently racing a Lotus Cortina Mk1 in historic saloons.
Royston Carpenter has moved on to be chairman of the company but is still involved in the day to day running of the business.
He also started as a motor mechanic and has managed the company for the last 47 years.
Also a car enthusiast, having raced mainly Jaguar cars 1959-1964 and again 1978-1982 and has renovated many classic vehicles,
at well over 60 years of age still racing the Lotus Cortina in the Post Historic Championship.
He is supported by his wife Jane Carpenter also still very much active in the business.
There is also an existing and younger generation of family members coming along who hopefully will progess the company into the future.
Plus hand picked sales and workshop teams, each member having been with the company many years.
The company always has and continues to offer great continuity of knowledge, experience and expertise.
